About the Initiative

Ujuzi Initiative is a non-governmental organisation registered in Tanzania under the Non-Governmental Organizations Act, 2002 (Registration No. OONGO/R/8724). We help young people, women and underserved communities turn digital skills into paid work through training, mentorship, access to devices and the internet, and links to real work.

We are part of the Ujuzi ecosystem but legally distinct and separately governed. Ujuzi-Tu Company Limited owns and operates the Ujuzi-Tu Freelance Platform, on which our graduates find work. Maxie Consult Company Limited supports programme design and monitoring and evaluation. We cooperate under written agreements, and our non-profit funds are kept separate from any commercial revenue.

Giving and receipts

Online by mobile money (M-Pesa, Mixx by Yas, Airtel Money, HaloPesa) or by card, once or monthly. Companies and institutions can also sponsor a cohort or donate equipment — use the partnership form and we will be in touch.

Yes. Payments are processed by licensed providers: Snippe for mobile money and DPO Pay for cards. We never see or store your card details or mobile money PIN. Every payment is confirmed with the provider before we record it.

Yes. As soon as your gift is confirmed we email a PDF receipt (and send an SMS if you gave a phone number). Every receipt carries a verification code and a QR code that anyone can check on our website. You can also find all your receipts under “My giving”.

Yes. Choose a fund such as digital skills training or devices and connectivity, and we will spend your gift only on that purpose. If you choose “Where the need is greatest”, we allocate it under our internal controls and report it in our open ledger.

A few days before each month’s gift is due, we send you a reminder by email and/or SMS with a one-tap link to give. You can pause or stop at any time from that link — there is no automatic charge.

That depends on the tax rules where you pay tax. Our receipts show our registration details and the amount given, which is what a tax adviser will usually need. We will announce any tax-relief approval here when we obtain it.

If you gave by mistake or the amount was wrong, contact us within 30 days and we will refund it. See our donation and refund policy for details.

Programmes and training

Anyone aged 18 or over who wants to earn through digital work can register interest. We give priority to young people aged 18–35, women, persons with disabilities and people from rural areas and secondary towns.

Our aim is that cost never stops a motivated learner. Sponsored places, scholarships and participation support (transport, internet bundles) are available depending on funding in each cohort.

No — and we are careful never to promise one. We give you skills, a mentor and a trusted route to clients on the Ujuzi-Tu platform, and we coach you through your first paid work. We measure how many graduates earn, and publish the results.

Volunteering and partnership

Apply through the volunteer or mentor form. We match you with a role that fits your skills and time, and give you a short orientation, including our safeguarding code. Mentoring can be done online.

Yes. Companies can sponsor a cohort or a digital hub, donate devices or connectivity, offer staff as mentors, or post real work for our graduates. Use the partnership form and our team will arrange a conversation.

Transparency and accountability

We publish an open ledger showing money received and allocated, by fund, and our annual reports and financial statements as they are approved. Restricted gifts are only spent on their purpose. Our Board supervises the management, and we separate non-profit funds from any commercial activity.

Safeguarding and privacy

Use our confidential reporting form. You can report anonymously. Only our safeguarding lead can read reports, and you will get a reference and a code to follow up without identifying yourself. If someone is in immediate danger, call the Police on 112 or the National Child Helpline on 116.

We use it only for the purpose you gave it for — to process a gift, answer a message or consider an application — and we protect it in line with Tanzania’s Personal Data Protection Act, 2022. We never sell it. Read our privacy notice for the details and your rights.
